About The Show

AMERICA: Without Gas is a 100% sustainable adventure sports episodic that creates a new genre of meaningful reality-based TV programming. Not only will it raise viewer awareness about carbon neutrality and the global climate crisis in a fresh new way, but by giving viewers easy ways to make a difference in their own lives, the show motivates them to help the Earth through healthier living.

After all, ‘environment’ does mean the place we inhabit, and if that place is unhealthy – we will be as well.

Combining many aspects of shows like Man Vs. Wild and Myth Busters, the show will follow producers/hosts Ryon Lane (an endurance runner) and Till Schenk (a triathlete), as well as a yet-unnamed longboarder as they travel across country from Washington, D.C. to Santa Monica, CA under the power of foot (Ryon will run; Till will ride a bicycle, run and swim, where ever possible; and the boarder will skate), 'roughing it' by consuming as little energy as possible the entire journey, but also documenting how much energy could be used (if they drove, stayed in hotels, ate in various restaurants, etc.) versus how much energy they do use (by using alternative fuel vehicles/running, camping, eating locally grown foods, etc.).

Also a bit like Martha Stewart: Living, the crew will show viewers how to do cool things in their own homes and businesses to reduce their own carbon footprint.  However, unlike most of the needless things Martha teaches viewers to make or do on her show, AMERICA: Without Gas viewers would be encouraged not to wastefully throw their energy-saving and carbon-reducing accomplishments in the garbage the following day...

During the trip, the three human-powered travelers will be supported and filmed by a crew of two driver/cinematographers and Parker Lane (Ryon’s brother and trainer) riding in an alternative fuel vehicle.  In addition to an electric vehicle possibility, other alternative fuel vehicle options are being considered, such as hydrogen fuel cell technology like GM's Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell, with which last year Chevy's Sequel accomplished over 300 miles without refueling, all while driving in and out of traffic on public roads - and with ZERO emissions.

During their journey, Ryon and Till will interview people from across the nation and attempt to figure out exactly what the average American knows and thinks about topics like global warming, carbon footprints, sustainability, the types of personal and business changes that can be made to reduce one's impact on the environment, and whether many people even care or 'believe' in global warming .

In each episode, viewers will follow legs of the journey that are intercut with:

  • Relevant eco-facts presented in fun, relatable ways to help enrich viewer knowledge of the issues
  • Convenient, stylish, sexy and cost-conscious ways to reduce personal and business carbon footprints
  • Interviews with celebrities about global warming and the climate crisis (often as Ryon and Till journey through the celeb’s own home town)
  • Comparisons of the exact carbon impact of the journey itself (including the filming & production, gadgets used, food eaten, habits and daily practices) to the carbon impact of similar non-sustainable travel, goods, services and practices commonly found in the average viewer’s life
  • Reviews and field testing of the newest and coolest eco-gear and eco-gadgets
  • Tips on where to eat locally and where to find the best local markets and cuisines across the nation
  • and MUCH, MUCH MORE!!!

Join Ryon, Till, Parker, the ‘unnamed longboarder’ and their crew starting April 1, 2009 in Washington, D.C. as they start their journey across the nation to see AMERICA: Without Gas.
